Implant-supported dentures are a dental restoration option for individuals with full arches of missing or damaged teeth. Unlike traditional removable dentures, implant dentures are designed to remain firmly affixed within the mouth, granting patients greater comfort and confidence. Our Mountain View implant dentist, Dr. Donian Shen, has extensive experience transforming patients’ smiles with this innovative technique.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures are a full arch replacement option that combines the coverage of dentures with the comfort and stability of dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-retained prosthetics are secured in the jawbone using a predetermined number of strategically placed implants, preventing slippage and promoting better functionality. Once fully fused to the jawbone, dental implants are considered a permanent part of a patient’s mouth, and they offer patients improved comfort, chewing efficiency, and oral health.
What Are the Benefits of Implant-Supported-Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures offer patients a number of benefits, including:
- More natural look, feel, and function than traditional dentures
- Improved comfort and reduced risk of slippage
- Increased chewing efficiency, allowing patients to eat a wider variety of foods
- Preservation of jawbone density and structure, as the dental implants stimulate jaw tissue
- Long-term durability and reliability
- Enhanced oral health by preventing bone loss and maintaining facial integrity
- Aesthetic appeal with a natural-looking and secure tooth replacement
- Improved speech clarity and confidence in daily activities.
Are There Different Types of Implant-Anchored Dentures?
Dr. Shen is a highly trained and experienced implant dentist, and she takes the time to assess each patient’s specific goals. Depending on their unique needs and oral structures, she can employ a few different implant denture techniques.
One of the most popular techniques is the All-on-4® and All-on-6 system, which uses between 4 and 6 strategically placed dental implants to anchor a custom implant denture. Even patients who have been told they may not be good candidates for implant dentures in the past may be able to benefit from this technique.
What Does the Implant-Retained Denture Process Entail?
Implant denture treatment usually begins with a thorough consultation and assessment with Dr. Shen, during which she will use advanced 3D imaging to gain a better understanding of your existing jawbone density and underlying oral anatomy. From there, a custom treatment plan can be developed, which may include some preparatory procedures—such as periodontal (gum) treatment or bone grafting to stimulate tissue growth.
From there, Dr. Shen will place the necessary number of dental implants in strategic locations to ensure the highest probability of a successful and durable treatment. The implants will typically need a few months to fully heal and fuse with the jawbone, during which time a temporary overdenture can be worn.
Once the dental implants have fully healed, your custom denture prosthetic can be placed, completing your smile transformation!
How Much Do Full Mouth Dental Implants Cost?
At Smile By Design, the average cost of an implant-supported denture treatment ranges between $15,000-30,000. That said, this cost is dependent on a number of variables, including the techniques and materials used to craft your denture, the number of implants placed, and whether any preliminary procedures are necessary.
